PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) extended its support to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs' Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia on Sept 8 by rolling out its Love Local Campaign, which echoes the ministry's call to rally Malaysians to support and buy local products to stimulate domestic consumption.

The ongoing Love Local Campaign hopes to create greater awareness on the many local brands out there with quality offerings comparable to those of global brands. It also aims to instill pride amongst Malaysians of the country's pool of talents and capabilities, empowering them to be part of the Malaysian economic recovery journey.

As part of this initiative, PDB is offering special discounts on selected locally produced F&B sold at its Kedai Mesra to encourage Malaysians to opt for local brands from now to February next year.

In addition, PDB will be working with local partners and vendors to offer a host of F&B and hospitality deals. Between November 2020 to January 2021, customers who spend a minimum of RM30 on fuel or Kedai Mesra items will be entitled to special discounts voucher to enjoy these deals.

“We are pleased to have the support from PETRONAS in this Campaign, which is aimed at boosting local businesses especially in this prolonged challenging climate. We are aware that the COVID-19 has impacted many local businesses and it is our hope that through this Campaign, we can rally Malaysians to support local talents and their products which in turn can help boost domestic economic recovery,” said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The campaign is also in line with PDB’s Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) programme, which has been established for over 25 years to support local entrepreneurs’ business. To date, PDB has over 350 local vendors supplying to its Kedai Mesra nationwide ranging from local delicacies such as nasi lemak, fried mihun to various local snacks, pastries, condiments and beverages, amongst others.

During the event, PDB showcased seven of its up and coming suppliers under its SME programme, namely TFN Brownie Cookies by TFN Success Group, Nasi Lemak Saleha, Local Snacks by Bistari Food Industry, Local Kuih (Sri Talamaz) by Rahmat Venture Sdn Bhd, Natural Sparkling Real Juice by The Tapping Tapir, Sambal Rindu by Far Cekap and Awesome Corn Juice by AEH International Trade.

“As a homegrown brand, we truly share similar sentiments as the Ministry, especially having grown from strength to strength over the years leveraging mainly on local capabilities and resources. I am proud to say that our range of products, which includes the locally formulated Primax 95 with Pro-Drive, has been a preferred choice amongst Malaysians. Through this platform, we hope to not only elevate the brand presence of local products, but to encourage the growth of more local businesses within our stores,” said PETRONAS Downstream Marketing Vice President Ahmad Adly Alias.
