IN line with fulfilling the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through the River of Life activities, Management and Science University (MSU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Friends of Rivers Malaysia (FoRM).

The collaboration aims to uplift and upgrade the Damansara River stretch behind MSU’s main campus in Shah Alam.

“Life revolves around water, and rivers are essential for life,” said MSU President Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid. “The same way community work has been for us in the past 39 years, environmental sustainability is not a rhetoric at MSU; it is one of our pillars. We feel the importance of community engagement and being part of the UNSDG movement as we embrace Goals 1 to 17.”

FoRM founder and chairman Prof Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang espouses that an action-oriented working framework is needed for the Malaysian river ecosystem.

The environmental engineer and scientist, who served as Secretary General in the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), went on to present the Public Participation Framework towards River Economy on stage at the MSU Performing Arts Theatre.

Signing for MSU were Mohd Shukri and Vice President for Industrial Linkages and Entrepreneurship Prof Dr Abdul Jalil Ghazali, while Zaini and FoRM deputy chairman Mansor Abd Ghani signed for the non-governmental organisation.

Also present were Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Student Affairs Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Othman A. Karim, the senior management of MSU and FoRM members.
