AS local retailers continue to roll out initiatives in the fight against Covid-19, the latest is a priority counter dedicated to healthcare workers (doctors, nurses and hospital staff), police and army officers spotted at Lulu stores at both Capsquare Jalan Dangwangi and 1 Shamelin Mall Cheras.
Asif Moidu Ahamed, Regional Director of Lulu Hypermarket & Department Store of Malaysia called the move as a “small and humble gesture” on their part in recognition of local superheroes’ efforts against the pandemic.
He also said that the same move had been undertaken across all of the 188 stores around the world.
“Doctors, healthcare workers as well as enforcement officers are at the forefront in this war against Covid-19 and no amount of gratitude is enough to truly thank them for their selfless service”.
“We thought the least we could do was make their shopping easier and quicker, so that it doesn’t add further to their already long and stressful time in the hospitals.”
Asked whether any proof of identification might be required to avail the services, Asif said, “We are not checking anyone’s proof of identification, as we sincerely believe that no one would misuse this noble initiative.”
There’s also the colourful signage on the floors next to checkout counters, encouraging customers to maintain a safe distance from other shoppers.
There are marks on the floor to encourage customers to keep and maintain social distance in all checkouts, fruits and vegetable weighing counter as well as all other important areas. There are dedicated members of staff stationed next to the trolley bay at the supermarket, ready to sanitise handles should you require a shopping cart.
Besides that, Lulu Hypermarket recently sent humanitarian aid for Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and Sg Buloh Hospital in collaboration with Media Prima Sdn Bhd. The food aid is for the tireless frontliners and the delivery was done by their dedicated staff and representatives from both parties.
Both Lulu outlets are also frequently visited by KPDNHEP and DBKL officials for inspection and to monitor the situation inside the store. They have given the thumbs-up to Lulu for their hygiene control and compliance of the order.
