ALTHOUGH festive celebrations this year are no longer the same due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sports Toto chose to hand out daily necessities to the Orang Asli Christian community so that they could also celebrate a warm and joyful Christmas.

In collaboration with Strategic Education Methods and Ongoing Achievements Bhd (SEMOA), a non-governmental-organisation that strives to improve the living standard of the Orang Asli community, Sports Toto donated RM30,000 worth of daily necessities to more than 600 families in Selangor and Pahang. SEMOA carried out the distribution from Dec 17 to 29, 2020.

Sports Toto senior communications manager Giam Say Khoon said the company was unable to throw a Christmas party for the community, hence it has decided to donate daily necessities to the indigenous group.

“Many have lost their source of income due to the pandemic and the underprivileged group would be even more badly affected.

“So it is very important for us to work with SEMOA to help them celebrate Christmas in a different way.

“It is our corporate social responsibility to bring cheer to the needy and underprivileged groups during festive seasons,” he added.

Sports Toto has been working with SEMOA to throw Christmas parties for the Orang Asli community since 2013.

Other than the Christmas donation campaign, Sports Toto’s Helping Hands programme also aids and supports the needy local communities during every other festive season.
