ON Sept 4, a business matching event was held between key local disributors in the healthcare industry and 15 suppliers from Taiwan as part of “Wow! Taiwan”, a project that seeks to market lifestyle and consumer products from Taiwan.

“In Taiwan, there is a lot of healthcare products that have yet to enter the Malaysian market, and this is a good opportunity for that to happen,” explained Commerce Development Research Institute’s (CDRI) senior marketing planner Tammy Ting.

In organising the event, CDRI assisted Taiwanese enterprises in gaining insight into the needs and preferences of local consumers.

“There’s a variety of programmes that allows Malaysians to know more about Taiwanese products. Previously, the healthcare products were not suitable for the Malaysian market, but this time, products such as the physiological monitors and blood glucose monitors appear to be more suitable for Malaysia,” she said.

Chung Mei Biopharma Global Business Development Division managing associate Chi-Yuan Chen, told theSun that the company brought food supplements geared towards the needs of Malaysians.

“We know the market is growing and the people are health conscious. The products will reduce the effects from air pollution. There are other products also for weight loss and constipation,” said Chen.

Explaining that the medical industry has implemented new rules and regulations for companies that wish to supply to government or private hospitals and clinics such as the Medical Device Act (MDA), GGHealthcare assistant sales manager Mohamad Ezzat Ashraf Jahmaludin points out that it is a sign that the industry is becoming more serious on the quality of products being supplied.

“In terms of business matching, Wow! Taiwan has given us an opportunity to find or gain new suppliers that are able to offer us products at a better price but with the same quality,” said Ezzat, who further claimed that the event has helped the company to find a Taiwanese supplier for ketone test strips that can be brought anywhere.

Another supplier which CDRI brought in through Wow! Taiwan is Merits Health Products, a professional manufacturer of Durable Medical Equipment (DME).

“The company focuses on wheelchairs and scooters, and Merits Health Products has been in the industry for 30 years, with our main clients hailing from the United States and Europe. We are required to meet their very high standards,” said Merits Health Products account manager Aiden Lin.
