ROMPIN: Barisan Nasional's Rompin by-election candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin is confident of retaining the seat left vacant by the death of Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis.
Hasan's confidence and optimism on his prospects of victory is attributed to his stellar record of service in the constituency since 1990.
"I have been serving the people in Rompin my whole life, even when I retired from being a state representative, I still hold a position in my party and have continued to serve the people.
"So if I win, It will be like any other day at the office, but with a bigger responsibility," Hasan said when met by reporters at Felda Keratong 10 here today.
Hasan was previously the Deputy Chief Minister from 1995 until 1999. He is also a former Tioman and Bukit Ibam state assemblyman for four terms from 1990.
He is currently the Rompin Umno division acting chief.
"We have won by a comfortable win before, the least we could do is to retain the majority," he said.
"So far I have never received a complaint about my service here, that is what makes me happy and it gives me the satisfaction of being on top of my game," Hasan said.
He added that the political stability in Rompin is due to the cooperation between the people and the government of the day.
The polling day for the Rompin by-election is on May 5, while early voting is on April 30.
Hasan will face PAS candidate Nazri Ahmad in a straight fight.
The Rompin Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Jamaluddin in a helicopter crash on April 4.
