GEORGE TOWN: Penang has submitted plans for its Light Railway Transit (LRT) linking Komtar and Bayan Lepas to the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) for approval.
State Local Government, Traffic and Flood Mitigation committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the plan was submitted by the state secretary to the regulators on March 29.
He said it was the first component of the project under the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) to be submitted.
"It is a significant milestone," he told a press conference in the presence of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Lim had earlier launched the PTMP website - pgmasterplan.penang.gov.my.
Chow said the website would provide information to the public on the PTMP project.
The RM27 billion PTMP is an ambitious venture to address traffic and connection issues in Penang by linking the island and the mainland with mass rail transit systems, bus services, ferries and water taxis.
SRS Consortium has been appointed by the state government as the Project Delivery Partner.
