PETALING JAYA: Organisers of the #TangkapMO1 rally are set to ignore police advice by having the gathering in Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.
The group's spokesman Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof said they would stick to the proposed venue despite last Friday's police advice for them to look for another location after Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) declined permission for Dataran Merdeka to be used for the rally.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had said that it would be an offence if the rally is held there.
"We have informed all the respective parties. We will proceed with Dataran Merdeka," Anis told theSun when contacted today.
On the counter-rally set to be held concurrently and led by Mohd Ali Baharom, or Ali Tinju, Anis said she respects their right to assemble, but hopes no untoward incident would take place over the course of the rally.
"If possible, maybe we can even assemble together to call for the arrest of MO1," she said, adding that further details on the rally would be made known at a press conference today.
Meanwhile, despite an earlier target of at least 10,000 participants joining the rally, Anis said it was more realistic to set it at 5,000.
Among those who have expressed their desire to join are electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0, Pakatan Harapan Youth wing, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), Lawyers for Liberty, Persatuan Hak Asasi Manusia Kebangsaan (Hakam), and Sisters in Islam.
She said the rally would take place from 2pm to 5pm, and that the theme would be black and white.
