KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27, 2014): Zoo Negara is putting the final touches to the "home" for two giant panda bears.
"The home for the two pandas is 1.6ha and has three segments (where the temperature) will be below 24 degrees Celsius to keep the environment close to the natural habitat of (the pandas)," said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel today during a press conference at Zoo Negara.
There will be an exercise area, holding den, food preparation area, storage rooms, laboratory, veterinarian clinic, incubator room, nursery and a monitoring room within the enclosure.
Fu Wa, a male giant panda born on Aug 23, 2006, and Feng Yi, a female born on the same day, are expected to arrive in mid-April.
"We are eagerly awaiting (the opportunity) to play host to this endangered species, and hopefully, we will learn ways to conserve our own local endangered species like the Malayan Tiger," Palanivel said.
