UNIMAGINABLE as it is, but this orangutan used to work in a brothel as a sex slave before she was rescued.

Pony was found chained to a wall and lying on a mattress n a brothel village at Kareng Pangi, Central Kalimantan in February 2003.

Men paid an equivalent of RM10 to have sex with Pony, who was taught to perform sex acts on customers.

She was captured from her mother when she was a baby. Her captors shaved her every two days and put purfume and make-up on her.

“When I found that she was used for prostitution and not just a pet I was horrified,” Lone Droscher-Nielson, who was part of the team who rescued Pony in 2003, was quoted as saying by the Sun of England.

“Perhaps in my naivety I had never thought it humanly possible to do such a thing to an animal.”

She was taken to a nearby orangutan sanctuary run by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation from the brothel after her rescue. She now lives with seven other primates in the sanctuary.
