EVEN with the Avengers done and dusted, many are looking forward to future films based in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, fans were hit with some devastating news when news broke that Sony has decided to pull Spider-Man from the MCU when Disney wanted a larger piece of the pie.

Sony still holds rights to the character but Marvel’s parent company Disney wanted a “50/50 co-financing arrangement.”

There were also discussions that this might extend to the other films in the Spider-Man universe.

Currently, Marvel only receives about 5% of gross box-office revenue so it’s understandable why Disney might want to renegotiate given the success of the movies.

According to Deadline, Sony, led by Tom Rothman and Tony Vinciquerra came back with a compromise but Disney didn’t agree to it.

However, not all seems to be lost. Based on a tweet by Adam B. Vary of Buzzfeed, negotiations on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man staying part of the MCU are still ongoing so the partnership may still be salvageable.
