THE Masked Singer Malaysia is a mystery singing programme featuring 12 ‘secret’ celebrity contestants. All contestants will compete to present their vocal prowess in front of a panel of judges consisting of some of the most respected figures in the local entertainment industry.

The Masked Singer Malaysia is an adaptation of the popular, genre-defining King of Mask Singer programme from South Korea, which has been adapted in countries like Indonesia, Thailand, China, the U.S. and others, making it the worldwide phenomenon it is today.

Astro Malay Language Business vice president Azlin Reza Azmi said: “The decision to adapt the format of the mystery singing programme The Masked Singer Malaysia was made after taking into account several key factors, especially considering the needs of the audience who are always in demand for fresh content which is full of variety, and with its own uniqueness.

“Interestingly, we have also injected some local elements in our adaptation, and it can be clearly seen in the costume designs that were inspired by the culture of our own country.

“We are very proud to be able to work with costume designer Akma Suriati Awang for the first season of The Masked Singer Malaysia. With her vast experience in the fashion, theatre and film industries, we are thrilled to see the audience’s reaction to her creations.”

The costumes include Musang King, Nasi Lemak, Orang Utan, Rajah Brooke, Wau, ABC, Enggang, Ayam Jantan, Reno, Rimau, Rafflesia and Bunga Raya.

Nine influential figures of various backgrounds from the Malaysian entertainment industry have been named permanent jury members of the show: Datuk Aznil Haji Nawawi, Michael Ang, Raja Azura, Zizan Razak, Ella Aminuddin, Remy Ishak, Nabila Huda, Ramona Zam Zam and Angah SINAR.

Meanwhile, taking on the role of host is the versatile Datuk AC Mizal.

Still maintaining the format of the original reality show, all The Masked Singer Malaysia contestants will be dressed in costumes from head-to-toe to hide their identity.

Only their voices and the creativity of each performance will be judged to determine the position of the contestants from week-to-week, until they are crowned the champion.

In the Week 1 show which was held last Friday, hockey legend Datuk Mirnawan Nawawi was the first contestant to be eliminated on The Masked Singer Malaysia. He sang the song Anak Kampung by Jimmy Palikat and wore a quirky nasi lemak-inspired costume.
