ASTRO kicked off its Chinese New Year campaign with an exciting festive line up to usher in the Year of the Pig 2019.

The campaign, titled ‘A New Courageous Start’, also marks the 12th Chinese New Year album launched by Astro, signifying a completion of a 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

The very first Chinese New Year album launched by Astro was in 2008, in conjunction with the Year of the Rat.

The Chinese New Year Album 2019, features seven songs performed by artistes from Astro and its three Chinese radio stations.

Among the tracks is traditional festive song Yong Qi Bang Du Du (Courage That Yields Greatness); and a medley of six of the most popular songs produced by Astro over the past eleven years, performed by 11 popular artistes (including Hui Mei, Jiang Han and Phoebe Yap).

The launch also served as the introduction of porcine star GG Bond as this year’s latest iconic Astro Chinese New Year mascot. The popular superhero cartoon character is already a familiar face to Malaysian viewers, with a show on Astro Xiao Tai Yang, syndicated from China.

Following the title of this year’s theme song - Courage That Yields Greatness - Astro has decided to present a ‘unique Malaysian edition of the GG Bond character’ to spread positivity to Malaysians.

At the launch, Wong Siah Ping, vice president of Chinese customer business of Astro, also announced a further regional collaboration with China, in the form of an opportunity to publish the Astro IP (intellectual property) Happy Dragon educational comic within the China market.

As with previous years, Astro subscribers can look forward to bonanza lucky draws, with prizes worth more than RM1mil up for grabs.

There will also be roadshows, concerts and the annual Chinese New Year Countdown Show that will be held at Bandar Rimbayu, Selangor.

In addition to all that, you can visit bangdudu2019.com to find out more about Astro’s CNY offering.

In the meantime, please enjoy the sight of Astro artistes and GG Bond performing a dance for the song Yong Qi Bang Du Du at the launch.
