Sports watch of the year

Seiko’s first hi-beat diver’s watch created in 1965 – the Seiko Prospex – was awarded the Sports watch prize at the prestigious 2018 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) on Nov 9.

The panel jury of 29 recognised watch experts also awarded the Seiko Prospex 1968 Diver’s Re-creation Limited Edition: SLA025 (pix) as the best sports watch of the year.

On top of its Calibre 8L55 that was specifically designed for diver’s use, it also had a 10-beat, high precision automatic calibre, a one-piece structure, a screw-down crown and a uni-directional rotating bezel.

Every detail is of the highest quality; its Zaratsu polishing gives the lug a magnificent sharpness and beauty, while a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating ensures high legibility and a durable silicone bracelet to accompany the watch.

The markers have polished edges and those at 12, 6 and 9 are different in design to guarantee that time is easily read even 300 metres down.
