LOCAL author Hanna Alkaf was awarded the prestigious Freeman Book Award for her novel The Weight Of Our Sky (Simon & Schuster, Salaam Reads).
The book was declared the 2019 Winner – Young Adult/High School Literature.
The Freeman Book Awards honours East And Southeast Asian books for Children and Young Adults.
Sponsored by The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), the Committee on Teaching about Asia (CTA) of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), and Asia for Educators (AFE) at Columbia University, the awards recognize quality books for children and young adults that contribute the understanding of East and Southeast Asia.
