MANIPAL International University (MIU), grooms future leaders through new ways of learning and doing.

In keeping with this spirit, MIU has launched a set of new short-term training programmes designed to build skills in school students that will help them navigate university life better and to develop strong leadership and team building traits.

On Jan 20, MIU onboarded its first cohort of 20 students for the MIU Explorer Programme, a two-month programme for students who have recently finished their SPM, STPM, or equivalent.

The Explorer Programme is an exciting activity-based programme that includes modules on visual math, financial literacy, design thinking, web technology, business skills, communication, and mass media literacy.

The programme also includes hands-on learning through an industry-related project and fun learning activities like trekking and other games. Students who have enrolled in this programme also get a free stay at MIU’s in-campus state-of-the-art hostels.

Through this programme, students who have finished their SPM or STPM but are yet to enroll into a foundation, diploma, or degree programme can make productive use of their free time and learn valuable skills that will give them a head-start when they join a university.

The university has also launched the MIU Young Leaders Programme, a customisable programme usually run for 1-2 days typically for Form 4 and Form 5 students. This too is an activity-based learning programme that will build skills of leadership, team building, communication, and emotional intelligence in young students.

This programme can be run both at school premises and at MIU’s campus and is not just limited to students but can also include school staff who wish to develop better soft skills and personality skills.

MIU also conducts special open days during which school students are given hands-on learning experience through workshops and demonstrations. In the past month, over 300 students have visited MIU’s campus from different schools across Perak, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan for these special open days.

The students had an excellent experience of learning through projects created by the university students and faculty, and they also received practical exposure in the streams that they are interested in.

These workshops and demonstrations will be conducted again through special open days on Feb 15 and 29. Both students and parents are welcome to join in the programme.

Hands-on learning and practical exposure are key focus areas for MIU. The university has 48 state-of-the-art science and engineering labs, the highest in Malaysia, for practical learning.

MIU’s programmes at the foundation, diploma, and degree level are fully accredited by the MQA. Beyond the MQA, MIU’s programmes are also globally recognised by relevant industry standards such as the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and the Washington Accord for the Engineering programmes.

The university is also a member of the global Association of MBAs (AMBA) for its MBA programme. As such MIU graduates have an advantage in their respective fields due to such high-quality industry affiliations.

International exposure is a key focus with undergraduate and postgraduate students having multiple opportunities to pursue parts of their studies with partner international universities in India, Australia, UK, UAE, and more.

As part of the global network of Manipal universities, MIU is strategically placed to help its students develop global perspectives and skillsets through such immersion trips. Frequent industry talks and visits are also a focus area for all programmes at MIU.

MIU also provides 100% industry internships for all students. These internships expose students to real life practice in companies operating within the Industry 4.0 environment. Several students have also bagged permanent jobs with the companies during their internships in the form of pre-placement opportunities.

All graduates will also complete a Final Year capstone project that further prepares them for Industry 4.0 in their respective fields.

MIU graduates have also gained employement with leading national and global organisations.

With these two focus areas, i.e. a well-rounded and industry affiliated-curriculum that prepares students for Industry 4.0 through both theory and practice at both national and international levels, and through assured employment of its graduates, MIU promises parents and prospective students the best platform for aspiring leaders of the future.

Next intake dates are as follows:
