Cowboys CB Brown (rib) placed on injured reserve

20 Sep 2020 / 03:28 H.

Dallas Cowboys starting cornerback Anthony Brown has been placed on injured reserve with an ailing rib, the team announced Saturday.

Brown initially sustained the injury during the Cowboys' 20-17 season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

Brown participated in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday before being listed as questionable on the injury report Friday. The move to injured reserve will prevent him from playing in at least the next three games,

Brown is the latest member of the Cowboys to sustain an injury in the season opener, joining tight end Blake Jarwin (torn ACL) and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (fractured clavicle).

Brown, 26, recorded six tackles in the Week 1 loss. He has collected 178 tackles, four interceptions, three forced fumbles and three sacks in 57 career games (34 starts) since being selected by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Also on Saturday, the Cowboys promoted tackle Eric Smith from the practice squad. Smith will provide depth for Dallas, which is without starting right tackle La'el Collins and swing tackle Cam Erving -- both are on injured reserve.

Left tackle Tyron Smith is considered a game-time decision for Sunday's home opener against the Atlanta Falcons (0-1) with a neck injury.
