21 Oct 2020 / 09:31 H.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Ilya Mikheyev to a two-year, $3.29 million contract Tuesday.

The deal allowed both sides to avoid arbitration and keeps Mikheyev with the Maple Leafs through the 2021-22 season. The contract will count as $1,645,000 against the salary cap for each of the next two years, although TSN and The Athletic reported that Mikheyev will earn $1.1 million next season and $2.29 million in the second year of the deal.

The 26-year-old Russian had 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 39 regular-season games as a rookie last season. Before joining Toronto, he spent four seasons with Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.
