Report: Texans won't sign S Thomas

30 Sep 2020 / 05:40 H.

The Houston Texans won't be signing free agent safety Earl Thomas after all.

Reports emerged Monday afternoon that the Texans likely would be signing Thomas after his visit with the club. But 24 hours later, veteran NFL reporter John McClain of the Houston Chronicle wrote on Twitter that it won't happen.

"After a lot of internal discussion, Texans decided Earl Thomas wasn't a good fit," he posted.

A seven-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time All-Pro, Thomas has been without a team since Aug. 23. The Baltimore Ravens released him two days after he was involved in an on-field altercation with safety Chuck Clark, with the team citing "personal conduct that has adversely affected the Baltimore Ravens."

Thomas had been eyeing a return to Texas for some time; he played in high school in the Lone Star State and collegiately for the Longhorns.

Thomas, 31, recorded 49 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks and a forced fumble in 15 games last season. He has 713 tackles and 30 interceptions in 140 career games with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-18) and Ravens.
