The biggest victory: Rivera finishes chemotherapy

Ron Rivera has heard his share of applause in his career in the NFL, but none of the cheers could have meant more to the Washington Football Team coach than those he experienced Monday morning.

Rivera walked down the corridor of the Inova Schar Cancer Institute in the Washington, D.C., suburbs after completing his final chemotherapy treatment and was greeted by medical professionals wearing black T-shirts emblazoned with "Rivera Strong." They whooped and hollered in honor of the coach as he walked out of the center on the final day of chemo, which he underwent to treat squamous cell carcinoma.

He stopped to ring the bell hanging on the wall, a symbol signifying the end of treatments.

The team shared a video with the caption, "It's a different kind of Victory Monday."

It was the second straight good day for Rivera, whose team dominated the Dallas Cowboys in a 25-3 win on Sunday.

Diagnosed with cancer in August, Rivera has not missed any games and only skipped a few practices in his first season in the nation's capital.

Rivera, 58, said the treatments often left him exhausted and were "like having a 300-pound gorilla on my back."

Washington has its bye week this Sunday, giving Rivera a chance to recover. The team hosts the New York Giants on Nov. 8.
