SHAH ALAM: An elderly man tragically lost his life, while his brother managed to survive a fire that engulfed a Class C residence on Jalan Kereta Api Lama, Batu 9, Klang, Selangor, last night.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, assistant director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, stated that they received the distress call at 10.26pm.

He added that following the fire’s full containment by 11.23pm, firefighters found the remains of a 79-year-old man beneath a stack of wood at the site.

“After the fire was fully extinguished, the estimated damage amounted to around 90 percent. Fortunately, one elderly man was rescued unharmed by members of the public,“ he said in a statement today.

He highlighted that the fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes with 15 personnel, and fire engines from the Kapar, Sungai Pinang, and Kota Raja Fire and Rescue Stations.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
