KUANTAN: The body of a Standard Six pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Iman, who was drowned during a picnic with his family in Sungai Pasir Kubur, Sungai Lembing near here last Saturday, was found today.
The body of Mohd Osama Suparman, 12, was recovered by villagers one km downstream from where he was reported to have disappeared at 9.35am, said Indera Mahkota Fire and Rescue Station chief Muhammad Najib Hashim.
Mohd Osama was said to have slipped into the river while washing his hands while five of family members were saved by a group of anglers when they got into difficulties while trying to save him.
Speaking to reporters at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan's Forensic Department here, the victim's father, Suparman Hanan, 46, said the family accepted the incident as fated.
"He (Mohd Osama) was happy that I'd bought him a ball and socks last week as he liked to play football.
"He wanted to become a religious teacher. He was eager to sit for UPSR (Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah) so that he could enter a pondok (rural religious school) to enable him to become an ustaz," said Suparman.
Mohd Osama, the fifth from seven siblings, will be buried in Kampung Jabor, Kemaman. – Bernama
