3 M'sian universities awarded Tier 1 Status by CIMA

KUALA LUMPUR: Three Malaysian academic institutions have been awarded Tier 1 status by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to enhance the employability of its students.
CIMA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), relating to this new status. Several other institutions will be awarded the same status in the future.
CIMA Education executive director and MoU signatory Dr. Noel Tagoe, spoke of providing required skills for graduates in employment.
"By equipping them with technical, business, leadership and people abilities they can in turn influence people's decisions, actions and behaviour."
Tagoe stated that working practitioners would reflect on their actions and its causes, in alignment with their stakeholders' interests.
"This comes about when we understand business challenges, performance, competencies and learning systems."
UiTM's Accountancy Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Rozainun Abd. Aziz said the award also assisted in helping the nation meet its aspirations for 60,000 accountants by the year 2020.
"Our relationship with CIMA has been a fruitful one for many years now," noting that it dates back to the 1960's under the Mara Institute of Technology.
"Our joint efforts have progressed from strength to strength, and we hope this will continue in the coming future."
Also in attendance at the signing ceremony was UM's Student Affairs and Alumni deputy vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Rohana Yusof, and IIUM's deputy rector of Internationalisation and Industry and Community Relations, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout.
