Nine 'scratch and win' touts charged in first case of its kind in Selangor

SHAH ALAM: Nine 'scratch and win' alleged touts including five women were charged in the Sessions Court here today with misleading the public with various prize offers.
The men, Andy Ng Wee Ping, 27; Pua Kai Yang, 20; Chu Hui Xin, 20; Lau Kah Wing, 20; and women, Lye Chooi Fun, 22; Lee Hsiao Lan, 35; Ng Yen Fong, 29; Rosmaliya Roslan, 21; and Lutfiatul Hasanah Sawari, 21, claimed trial.
They are accused of committing the offence at Tesco Ampang, Jalan Pandan Prima Dataran, Pandan Indah, Ampang, Selangor at 2.20pm on June 7.
The charge under Section 20(B) of the Trade Description Act 2011, carries a maximum RM250,000 fine or three years' jail, or both, on conviction.
According to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's office in Selangor, it was the first 'scratch and win' case to be brought to court under Section 20 of the Act.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor A. A. Kathiyayini urged the court to set RM100,000 as bail for each accused but counsel Jackes Loi countered that it was too high.
The lawyer mitigated for a sum of between RM3,000 and RM7,000 for each accused as their respective monthly income was only between RM1,200 and RM1,500.
Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid set RM10,000 as bail for each accused and July 18 for mention. — Bernama
