KUALA LUMPUR: Klang Valley folks can now travel farther as the LRT extension services for Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines will officially start on June 30.
The completion of the two rail lines will certainly be good news for those who want to escape the traffic crawl heading to the city with ridership expected to increase up to 150,000 passengers daily.
The much awaited services will take users 84 minutes to reach Putra Heights from the Gombak station on the Kelana Jaya line, and 82 minutes from the Sentul Timur station on the Ampang line.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak will officially launch the Putra Heights station on June 30 at 3pm, marking a new dawn for urban public transport.
According to Prasarana’s spokesperson, it is cost effective for the public to use the rail services of both lines.
“For example, if one is residing at Putra Heights or Saujana Putra and working in KL city centre, one will have to endure massive traffic, incurring highway tolls and parking costs,” he said.
“By using LRT and parking your car at the Putra Heights station, you only need to pay RM3.40 by using the Smart 30 fare package (one way).”
Other than the Putra Heights station which offers 452 parking spots, there are 2,178 parking bays and 588 bays for motorcycle available at five stations on the Kelana Jaya line extension namely at Ara Damansara, Glenmarie, USJ 21 and Subang Alam.
For the Ampang line, there are 2,036 parking spots and 658 motorcycle bays at Awan Besar, Muhibbah, Kinrara BK 5, IOI Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Puchong Perdana and Puchong Pirma.
The spokesperson also said RapidKL feeder bus services are ready to serve the surrounding areas for each station.
Currently, rail service on Ampang line ends at Bandar Puteri and commuters are required to change trains at Seri Petaling pending comprehensive system upgrading during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
For Kelana Jaya line, delivery of new four-car trains and current refurbishment of existing trains in the next 16 months will further improve the service.
“Hopefully, we will complete all system upgrade and train integration for both lines before July 17,” he added.
