JOHOR BARU: Four armed robbers staged a three-minute heist at a goldsmith shop in a shopping mall in Tampoi and got away with yet-to-determined amount of jewellery around 7.50pm yesterday.
Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, who was at the scene, said: “They barged into the shop which is at ground floor in the mall, and one of the robbers shot the security guard of the shop in his thighs. He then took the guard’s shotgun.”
The other robbers began smashing the display cases with hammers and started to scoop up the jewellery and placed them in a satchel.
Police have activated a state-wide “Op Tutup” and “Op Kesan” to apprehend the robbers.
The security guard was admitted to Sultanah Aminah Hospital, and his condition was reported to be stable.
The case is being investigated for armed gang robbery.
