Little change in number of flood victims in Mersing, Kluang

JOHOR BARU: There is little change in the number of flood victims in Mersing and Kluang districts at 12 noon with 387, less one person than the 388 this morning, said State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat.
"Eight victims from two families are putting up at the relief centre of Dewan Raya Kampung Parit Hassan, Kluang while 379 victims are placed at six relief centres in Mersing.
"The affected areas in Mersing are Kampung Kelantan, Air Papan, Kampung Tanjung Genting, Kampung Tenglu Besar, Kampung Air Tawar, Kampung Jemari, Kampung Air Merah and Kampung Pengkalan," he said in a statement today.
Two schools, one each in Kluang and Segamat districts remained closed. They were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Punan (Kluang) and SK Mensudut Lama (Segamat).
A total of 64 students from the two schools were affected after the roads leading to their schools were flooded since Jan 1.
The Meteorological Department's weather alert issued for Segamat and Mersing yesterday has ended. — Bernama
