Trader charged with possession of imitation firearm

IPOH: A trader claimed trial in the magistrate's court here today to three charges including possession of imitation firearm.
Lew Soon Aun, 47, stands accused on the first charge, of possession, carrying and using a form of firearm or ammunition without a licence or permit at a cafe at Bercham Trade Parade, Desa Kencana here at 7.30pm on Jan 23.
The charge, under Section 8(a) of the Arms 1960 carries up to seven years imprisonment or RM10,000 fine, or both, on conviction.
He is also accused of importing imitation firearm at the same place, time and date, under Section 36 of the same Act which carries a maximum one year imprisonment or fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, on conviction.
On the third charge, Lew allegedly failed to produce an identity card upon request by a senior police officer, at the same place, time and date.
The charge under Section 25(1)(a) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 carries a jail term of up to three years or a maximum fine of RM20,000, or both, on conviction.
Magistrate Siti Salwa Ja'afar set RM10,000 as bail for all the charges and Feb 19 for remention.
