Najib says CNY grander this year, as economy strengthens

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abd Razak hopes that the Lunar New Year will usher in good luck for the government.
"Let us pray that this Lunar New Year will bring in some luck for the government this year," he told the media at Wisma MCA here.
Najib who graced the Chinese New Year festivities at MCA's open house said that this year Malaysians were able to enjoy more prosperity as the Malaysian economy strengthens.
"I see this year's celebration is more festive as the public is happier now that Malaysia's economy grew by 5.9%, stocks are going up and the ringgit has also strengthened. The confidence in the country's future is showing so the celebrations are grand," he said.
He arrived at 9.45am at Wisma MCA with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, dressed in traditional Chinese attire, they were greeted by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and other party leaders.
Najib watered a bonsai tree on stage which is a symbol of growth and strength, Liow later gifted the bonsai to the Prime Minister.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas were among the leaders who joined in the celebrations.
