KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today he was surprised that PAS MPs supported the Anti-Fake News Bill 2018 that the Dewan Rakyat passed yesterday.
He alleged that PAS was acting like a ruling party.
The Anti-Fake News Bill 2018 was passed by a bloc vote, with 123 votes in favour and 64 against. It aims to check the dissemination of fake news and establish preventive measures.
Pasir Mas MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz of PAS, in a statement yesterday, said PAS supported the bill for 10 reasons, including that the bill was akin to the religious basis that falsehood and slander destroyed society and the nation.
He also said that it was hoped that the bill would check those who made a hobby of disseminating fake news. — Bernama
