ISKANDAR PUTRI: The half-buried body found in a durian orchard has been identified to be that of a teenager who died of chest and neck injuries.
Iskandar Putri police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said the initial investigation revealed that the 17-year-old was beaten to death in an apartment here on June 29, and his body was transported and buried in a durian orchard in Kangkar Pulai later.
"A group of suspects apparently gathered at an apartment here where they offered the victim a drink laced with some drugs. Some of them began to beat the teenager because they accused the victim of not paying the full amount for the drink. The teen died at the spot after the beating," he said.
He said the suspects used two cars to transport the body.
"They burnt the first car in some bushes near the road leading to Kangkar Pulai, and they changed to another car to transport the body to the durian orchard," he added.
He said police received a report on July 5, and found the body on the same day.
Police have arrested 17 suspects, including six females, aged 15 to 40 in several raids in Gelang Patah.
All the suspects have been remanded till July 23 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
