MOBILE users who are accessing YouTube videos through third-party ad blocking apps will soon find themselves facing buffering issues and error messages, reveals Youtube in a recent update.

“We want to emphasise that our terms don’t allow third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership, and Ads on YouTube help support creators and let billions of people around the world use the streaming service,” the statement reads.

The update also doubles as a threat to the third-party apps, where those that violate YouTube’s terms will see “appropriate action” taken against them to protect the platform, creators and viewers.

This global effort by YouTube began in 2023 when the platform began disabling videos for users with ad blocking extensions enabled. The ongoing strategy is meant to encourage users to allow ads while watching videos or to upgrade to YouTube Premium.

For those using these ad blocking third-party apps to circumvent YouTube bombarding them with two to three ads that can not be skipped will not find this news pleasant.
