GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today went through the ice water treatment to raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's disease as part of the ice bucket challenge.
Cheered on by a crowd of on lookers at Lebuh Pantai, Lim's wife, Betty Chew, poured a bucket of ice water on the two term chief minister.
Lim said getting iced in the morning was worthwhile as it was for a good cause.
He said taking part in the challenge, which has gone viral, was important for Penang as a member of the international community.
He described the experience as invigorating.
"It makes you feel alive," he said after getting drenched in front of some 200 people while radio DJ KK Wong, who challenged Lim, also poured ice water on himself.
Earlier, Lim urged the people to get more involved in charitable causes whether locally or internationally.
"It is our responsibility to help each other especially the disabled group," he said when opening the Let's Walk, Run & Zumba event to raise funds for the Eden Handicapped Centre.
Earlier, participants also observed a minute's silence in remembrance of the MH 17 tragedy.
