KUALA LUMPUR: France will conduct air and sea searches off its Indian Ocean territory of Reunion Island until the start of next week for debris of MH370.
"Coordinated searches will continue until the beginning of next week. The searches so far, had yielded no significant element," the island's top official was quoted as saying on Wednesday.
He said the searches would be shifted to the periphery of the initial area scoured, especially to the south.
On July 29, a wing part was found on the French territory and confirmed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to be part of MH370 which went missing on March 8, with 239 people on board.
Meanwhile, Australian authorities have dismissed news reports by Australia Associated Press (AAP) claiming that sonar images of two box-like shapes on the floor of the Indian Ocean could be from MH370.
The news agency quoted a spokesman for Transport Minister Warren Truss as confirming that the objects were not from MH370.
"These are old images, discounted months ago.
"In fact, they are the least likely to be aircraft debris," said the spokesman.
The reports which were published by some foreign and Malaysia's local media yesterday, described the "category 3" sonar finds, by one of the search and recovery ships, as being most likely to be aircraft debris. – Bernama
