Mexican judge sentences three in killing of 13

MEXICO CITY: A Mexican judge has handed down prison sentences of 520 years for each of three men convicted of kidnapping and killing 13 young people, officials said Sunday.
The 2013 massacre in Mexico City, reportedly a settling of scores involving the drug trade, shocked the nation.
It also went against the commonly held view that the capital city is relatively inured from the carnage that has plagued other parts of the country as cartels fight each other viciously.
A statement from a prosecutor's office said the alleged involvement of 12 other men is still being investigated.
The tragedy began when 13 young people were abducted from a bar called Heaven in the Zona Rosa, as one of Mexico City's main nightlife districts is called.
Their bodies were found three months later in a common grave at a rural estate outside the city, following an outcry from their families.
Prosecutors concluded that the crime was committed in apparent revenge for the killing days earlier of a small-time drug dealer at a bar in another area of the city.
Besides the long jail sentences, each man was fined the equivalent of about US$300,000 (RM1.3 million), the prosecutor's statement said. – AFP
