JOHOR BARU: Nine men and eight women were detained today to facilitate investigations into a brawl at a seafood restaurant in Stulang Laut near here, two days ago.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the suspects comprising locals and Vietnamese nationals aged between 20 and 50, were roped in at various locations in the city between 3am and 4am.
He said initial investigations revealed, an allegedly drunk group of people had entered the restaurant and ordered some food but became angry when it took too long to arrive.
"The suspects are being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and will be brought to Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court this afternoon for further action," he told reporters at the Johor Police Contingent headquarters here today.
Yesterday, a four-minute-25-second video of a rampage at a restaurant went viral on Facebook and circulated widely through Whatsapp.
Meanwhile, Mohd Khalil said 5,572 policemen would be assigned to enhance security in the state during the 14th general election (GE14).
He said Johor police were on standby for GE14 which could be called anytime.
"They will be assigned at voting and security control centres throughout the state. Rest assured, the general election will be smooth and under control," he said. — Bernama
