Air strikes kill 42 militants in Afghanistan

KABUL: Forty-two Taliban militants were killed and 24 others were wounded in air strikes within the past 24 hours, Xinhua news agency reported, citing Afghanistan's Ministry of Defence on Monday.
Eighteen militants were killed and 14 were wounded in Uruzgan province (south) after their positions on the outskirts of provincial capital Tirin Kot city and neighbouring Dihrawud district were targeted.
Nine militants were killed and seven others were wounded in another air strike in Maruf district of neighbouring Kandahar province, said a statement.
Ten militants were killed in Daychopan district of Zabul province (south) while five militants were killed and three others were wounded in Faryab province (north) after their hideouts in Almar district were hit.
A large mount of weapons and ammunition were also destroyed by the air strikes conducted by the Afghan Air Force, the US and NATO-led coalition forces. — Bernama
