JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has proposed the state government involve the Royal Johor Military Force (JMF) in providing assistance in times of natural disasters such as security control as well as supporting security forces during an emergency.
Speaking at a JMF recruit passing-out parade here today, the sultan who is also the force's commandant hoped a JMF museum would be set up.
"Due consideration should be given to the needs of JMF supporting equipment and infrastructure so that the force can carry out its role and duties effectively, in peace or war.
"I am confident the force is capable of supporting the state government during disasters such as floods, controlling state peace and security, and assisting the security forces in maintaining security during an emergency," he said.
Sultan Ibrahim's speech text was read by Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim at the JMF headquarters here.
Thanking the state government for expanding the JMF from 196 officers and men to 425 members, the sultan hoped the state government would gather and update written materials on the JMF.
"I am proposing to the state government to continue collecting written and historical materials on the force so that all the sacrifice and involvement of the force in the past could be shared with the people.
"A JMF museum should be set up to benefit the people and tourists who visit this state," he said.
In this regard, Sultan Ibrahim also expressed thanks to the state government in formulating the Johor Military Forces Service Commission Enactment and the amendment of the Johor Military Forces Enactment 1915 (Enactment No. 31) which was passed by the State Legislative Assembly recently.
Today's ceremony saw 76 JMF recruits completing their training in full military parade held for the first time since 1947.
At the ceremony, Tunku Ismail also presented prizes to Best Overall Recruit, Ahmad Akmal Ahmad Arshad, 26, Norman Affan Jumaat, 22, (Best Marcher), Muhammad Tarmizi Kamaruzaman, 22, (Best Shooter) and Muhamad Afiq Mod Ramli, 23, (Best in Academics). — Bernama
