Perodua hints at future capabilities

PERODUA is giving visitors to the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS18) a sneak peek at its future capabilities in design concepts and a shadow of things to come.

“Perodua’s stand at KLIMS18 offers a glimpse into a future direction it may take to meet the ever-evolving expectations of our valued customers,” said Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh yesterday, at KLIMS, which is being held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), Kuala Lumpur.

“Themed ‘Illumination’, the Perodua stand is our vision of what we aspire to be; a beacon of ideas in line with the needs and wants of our future customers,” he added.

Unveiled yesterday at Perodua Illumination was the “X-Concept”, a tech-laden concept vehicle geared towards future aspirations and lifestyles.

Visitors are welcome to engage with Perodua’s Research and Development team to give their feedback and views, Aminar said.

Assuming a dynamic hatchback profile, the Perodua X-Concept’s highlights include an LED-illuminated front grille and Perodua logo, low-set Y-shaped LED headlamps, dynamic pulse turn indicators and sway doors that open to reveal the absence of a B-pillar.

Inside, the X-Concept features a futuristic dashboard layout that incorporates a TFT instrument panel, a 12.9-inch central touch-screen and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

“In keeping with KLIMS18’s ‘Beyond Mobility’ theme, the X-Concept is much more than just a vehicle in the accepted sense. It is the manifestation of Perodua’s vision of the future, a vision where cars are lifestyle statements first, means of transport second, and bristling with connected technology.

“And we’re letting the public ‘drive’ and experience it, through the wonders of virtual reality,” Aminar.

Also debuting at Perodua’s KLIMS18 stand is the Myvi GT, a design exercise that explores a sportier version of the popular Myvi. The vehicle features bolder front and rear bumpers, upgraded brakes behind 17-inch sports rims, Alcantara bucket seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel, amongst others.

Technical enthusiasts will delight at a showcase of a next-generation powertrain courtesy of Perodua’s technical partner, Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan, and finally, visitors will be treated to a sneak peek of a future Perodua offering.

“Drop by and see us – we have loads of activities lined up throughout the show, including games, digital contests, prizes and performances, so we can really get closer to our current and future customers,” said Aminar.
