Covid-19: Eight new clusters detected, three ended - Health DG

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health (MOH) today identified eight new Covid-19 clusters while three others have ended, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix).

He said that the three new clusters in Sabah were the Sabaru Cluster in Lahad Datu, Tomher Cluster in Ranau and the Garden Cluster in Tawau.

The other new clusters were the Putra-18 (Putrajaya, Selangor), Murni (Kuala Lumpur, Selangor), Seri Pasir (Penang), Besi Demak (Sarawak) and Parit Kassan (Johor, Melaka) clusters.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said that three clusters have also ended, namely, Kencana (involving Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu), Bah Sintok (Kedah, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor) and Seri Anggerik (Selangor) clusters.

Detailing the new clusters, he said that the index case of the Sabaru cluster was identified from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 3 and subsequently admitted to the Lahad Datu Hospital.

“Community screening conducted has identified another 87 positive Covid-19 cases linked to the Sabaru Cluster. These individuals have been admitted to the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre in Sepagaya,” he said during his daily press briefing today.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the Tomher Cluster involved screening of construction workers, conducted since Nov 9.

A total of 276 individuals have been screened in this cluster, with 20 tested positive and all have been placed at the low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre at the Ranau Sports Complex.

In the Garden Cluster, the index case tested positive during a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 7, while close contact screening detected 10 more positive cases and all cases have been admitted at Tawau Hospital

Meanwhile, the Putra-18 Cluster was detected in Putrajaya, as well as the Petaling and Sepang districts, with index case tested positive during a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 14 and the close contact screening detected six more positive cases thus far. All were admitted at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the Murni Cluster was detected in Cheras and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur as well as in Petaling, Selangor with the index case tested positive from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 15.

He added that six more Covid-19 positive cases were detected from close contact screening and all of them admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Seri Pasir Cluster involved the Northeast district in Penang with 11 positive cases detected while 13 more individual are still waiting the results.

“The index case of the cluster was detected from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 11 while close contact screening detected 10 more positive cases. All individuals have been admitted to the Penang Hospital,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Besi Demak Cluster, identified in Kuching, Sarawak, with the index case tested positive during a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 15.

He said that 237 individuals have been screened in this cluster, with four more tested positive and 12 others were still waiting the results.

For the Parit Kassan Cluster, detected in Tangkak, Johor and Melaka Tengah, Melaka, with the index case tested positive during a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 13. The case was admitted to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Johor,

“As at 12 noon today, a total of 105 individuals have been screened in this cluster, with 11 tested positive, and 24 others are still waiting the results,” he said. — Bernama
