Covid-19 : Factories in Penang urged to set up emergency response taskforce

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government today urged factories in the state to set up an emergency response protocol taskforce in the event any of their employees were infected with Covid-19.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (pix) said stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) were required to be implemented following the increase in Covid-19 cases involving several factories in Penang.

“This is based on the contents of the letter from the Penang State Health Department (JKNPP) director to both the local authorities (PBT) (in Penang).

“In fact, (factory) managements are also urged not to allow officers and employees who have fever or other (Covid-19) symptoms to come to work, and ensure that they seek treatment to keep the workplace safe,“ he said in a statement today.

Chow said the two local authorities, namely the Penang City Council (MBPP) and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) were also asked to continue monitoring activities and take stern action against companies and factories that did not comply with the set SOP.

“To all the people of Penang, each one of us is a frontliner. The Covid-19 pandemic is present in our community, therefore, continue to take care of yourself, comply with the SOP and never spread information obtained from unauthentic sources,“ he said. — Bernama
