Police, MPS convey condolences to Kelantan Sultan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) today conveyed its condolences to the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, on the death of his father, Sultan Ismail Petra Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador (pix) prayed that Sultan Ismail Petra’s soul would be blessed by Allah and placed among the martyrs and the believers.

“RMP will provide the necessary assistance to ensure a smooth funeral ceremony,” he said in a statement today.

Sultan Ismail Petra, 69, died at the Royal Ward of the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu at 8.11am today.

The announcement on the death of the 28th Sultan of Kelantan was made by Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob at Kota Darul Naim in Kota Bharu.

Sultan Ismail Petra ruled Kelantan from March 30, 1980 until May 2009 when he suffered a stroke and was deemed incapacitated by illness. Sultan Muhammad V then took over the Kelantan throne.

Meanwhile, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof also expressed his condolences to the Sultan of Kelantan and the Kelantan royal family on the death of Sultan Ismail Petra.

He said all the Members of Parliament (MP) were saddened by the death of His Highness.

“Indeed, all the deeds and contributions by Sultan Ismail Petra will always be remembered,“ he said in a statement. — Bernama
