PETALING JAYA: Taiwan aims to cooperate with Malaysia in smart tech-related industries such as information and communication, 5G, Artificial Intelligence of Things and medical care, as well as green technology, according to Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs (Bureau of Foreign Trade) director-general Cynthia Kiang.

“We will encourage the applications upgrade of smart cities, smart manufacturing, low-carbon economy, and smart medical care. We will also harmonise with major emerging global economic trends such as supply chain restructuring, energy saving, and carbon reduction,” Kiang told SunBiz during the Taiwan Trade Mission to Malaysia event held yesterday.

She said economic relations between Taiwan and Malaysia are “very friendly”. With the government establishing the National Policy on Industry 4.0, Shared Prosperity Vision 2030, as well as My Digital, which plans to accelerate innovation and establish a complete digital ecosystem. She believes Taiwan has advantages in terms of the information and communication industry which can assist Malaysia’s policies to achieve their goals.

Citing the 12th Malaysia Plan, which is a government initiative to develop high-potential industries, Kiang said it focuses on industries that offer substantial scope for cooperation with Taiwanese companies.

“The delegation will explore business cooperation opportunities in Malaysia. Direct cooperative relationships with their counterparts in the field of smart industry will drive their industries to deeper cooperation. We will continue to set up a variety of Taiwanese industry image galleries and special areas based on Malaysia’s government policies and industrial development needs,” she said.

In addition, she said integrated circuits are a major import and export item for both Taiwan and Malaysia. The electronics and electrical machinery industry is a key development field with multitudinous opportunities for industrial cooperation.

“Malaysia’s digital technology competitiveness ranks second among Asean countries, making Malaysia the preferred partner of Taiwanese companies for strategic investment,” she said.

Luckyear Microelectronics Corp chairman Lucky Lin Ming Jen said the company is looking for a local distributor for its products in the cold chain business unit.

Seeing as the company only sells equipment, he said it is searching for a local distributor, which has a “centralised” facility, preferably in the food manufacturing industry which is able to provide cold storage and logistics services.

Its featured products are its freezer models TQF7805, TQF7806, TQF10805 and TQF10806, which uses individually quick frozen technology. Through the momentary rapid low temperature, the frozen goods pass the maximum ice crystal formation zone (0-5%) in a short period.

It also has the technology to maintain a temperature of up to -80ºC, to retain the integrity of the food tissue and cell activity, which keeps frozen goods fresh and in good quality.

He added that the basic configuration of six metres but the modular design capability allows the machine to be configured as per customer requirements.

The 2022 Taiwan Trade Mission to Malaysia concluded a one-on-one business meeting in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, the first stop for the trade mission which is part of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy. It is the first overseas sales promotion event of its kind since the pandemic lockdown in Taiwan was lifted last month.

The 21 Taiwanese manufacturers participating this year and the delegation will be visiting Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam until Dec 7 and are expected to meet up with more than 250 buyers across more than 500 business meetings during the outing. The business opportunity is expected to be in excess of US$10 million (RM45 million).
