SEMPORNA: A total of 254 young agropreneurs in the country obtained their Young Agropreneur Grant (GAM) for Mobile Food Kiosks (MFK) worth RM5.08 million between Jan 1, 2016, and Apr 30 this year,

From the total number of young agropreneurs, 29 were from Sabah with a grant value of RM580,000, said Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MOA) secretary-general Datuk Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan.

“The number of young entrepreneurs has increased to 1,200 entrepreneurs this year compared to 1,000 entrepreneurs last year,“ he said after handing over MFK site to 10 new participants in Semporna, yesterday.

The 10 young agropreneurs in Semporna received a total of RM200,000 in grants for the Mobile Food Kiosk project.

The leader of Semporna MFK group, Rusamin Rusli, 31, said the application for the MFK was made in July last year and he was informed that he had been selected as a participant in February.

He noted that he had formed the group as a condition to carry out the project as well as receiving guidance through a mentor from Tawau.

“This is the first group from Semporna and our group members have been involved in business activities before,“ he said.

As for one of the group members, Siti Kadiah Abdillah, 36, who runs a bakery for the past eight years, she was grateful to be selected to receive the young agropreneur grant.

She noted that the group would start their business in Semporna town in the near future. — Bernama
