PETALING JAYA: A total of 78 individuals were arrested for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO) yesterday.
Of this number, 74 were issued compounds while four were remanded.
Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said among the offences committed were not wearing face masks (23) and breaching the enforced movement control order (18).
“Other offences committed included pub and nightclub activities (12), failure to provide equipment or facilities for check-in purposes (11), premises operating without authorisation (eight), and lack of social distancing (three),” he said in a statement today.
Three illegal immigrants were also arrested.
The arrests were part of the 13,411 inspections carried out by the police’s Compliance Operations Task Force yesterday on premises including supermarkets, transport terminals, government offices, banks, restaurants and hawker centres.
Ismail Sabri said that Ops Benteng, under the National Task Force involving the police, army, maritime enforcement agency, and the border control agency, yesterday made 46 arrests.
“The arrests included two boat captains, two suspected smugglers and 42 illegal immigrants. Nine land vehicles were also seized.
“Meanwhile, 91 roadblocks were also conducted nationwide in order to curb the entry of illegal immigrants,” he said.
Ismail Sabri also announced that between July 24 and yesterday, a total of 34,024 individuals had returned to Malaysia through international borders.
“Of the total, 7,593 are undergoing mandatory quarantine while 103 individuals have been sent to hospitals for treatment. A total of 26,331 have been discharged and allowed to go home,” he added.
Ismail Sabri said 16 sanitisation operations were conducted yesterday covering three red zones, two yellow zones, and seven green zones across Sabah, Penang, Sarawak, Kedah, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, the enhanced movement control order enforced in Kota Star will be lifted tomorrow, except for one high-risk area, namely the Tongkak Yard flats.
The flats will be placed under targeted EMCO until Oct 7, as nine residents there have tested positive for Covid-19.
Ismail Sabri added the Sungai Korok Lama primary school will also be closed until Oct 9.
