PETALING JAYA: Entrepreneur Simon Yap has decided to lend a hand to front-liners as they battle Covid-19.

In an interview with theSun yesterday, Yap said he decided to create an aerosol box after several hospitals called to him to create one.

The box acts as a “barrier” that better protects doctors as they intubate patients.

The simple device consists of a transparent plastic box with an opening on one side allowing it to fit over the patient’s chest and neck, while the opposite side has two small holes through which doctors can insert their fingers.

The box is designed to enable physicians to intubate a patient while shielding themselves from any aerosol particles that could be released from the patient’s airways during the procedure.

Yap’s nephew, Datuk Seri Edmund Ong, who is also his partner, said the first box was designed last Thursday.

“We have produced 20 to 30 boxes a day, and each one costs about RM200. Thus far, a total 140 boxes have been made,“ he said.

For further information, Yap and Ong can be reached at 016-2111188 and 018-3999933 respectively.
