PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today launched Putrajaya Floria 2019 at the Botanical Garden here.

Also present at the event was Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

At the event, Sultan Abdullah launched the latest collection of a new hybrid orchid which was named Vanda Queen Azizah Iskandar in honour of Tunku Azizah.

Vanda Queen Azizah Iskandar was registered with the International Cultivar Registration Authority on July 17.

The royal couple also spent an hour visiting the booths at the festival, accompanied by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abd Samad and president of Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim.

The festival which is in its 11th year, displays one million flowers of a spectrum of colours, including more than 500 varieties of orchid species, more than 100 bonsai collections, and 70 showcase gardens of various teams and designs.

Targeting 500,000 visitors, the Royal Floria Putrajaya will be open to the public from tomorrow until Sept 8, featuring orchids and bonsai plants as the theme this year.

This is the first time that the event is held at the Botanical Garden in Precinct 1, after 10 years located in Anjung Floria in Precinct 4.

Also an attraction is the water taxi which can transport visitors to the Botanical Park from various locations.

The PPj has also provided a buggy service for visitors to go to the festival site. - Bernama
