PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad said another person tested positive for the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV), this time a Chinese national from Wuhan, China, who came to Malaysia with her mother and three friends on Jan 25. They visited tourist spots in Kuala Lumpur.

The 37-year-old woman, after developing a slight fever, was given outpatient treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, used a Home Assessment Tool and remained housebound until further advice.

“They were instructed not to go anywhere and were monitored. When district health officer checked in on them and found that the woman still had symptoms, she was referred to HKL on Feb 5 for treatment and investigation. 2019-nCoV test came back positive and she was placed at HKL’s isolation ward,“ he said, during the daily briefing on the coronavirus outbreak at the Health Ministry today.

The patient was now in stable condition.

This now brings the number of positive 2019-nCoV cases in Malaysia to 14 cases.

Meanwhile, Dzulkefly said it is quite unlikely for someone to get infected if one keeps a distance of one metre away from an infected person.

“The droplets from a cough or sneeze are the cause of transmission for the spread of the coronavirus. So keep a distance away, even more from anyone showing the symptoms,“ he advised.

To those who want to attend public events and the Thaipusam and Chap Goh Mei celebrations, he said: “Always prioritise self hygiene and wash your hands frequently with water and soap or use proper hand sanitisers and a facial mask.”
