Brickfields extortion case mirrors gangsters’ modus operandi: Mazlan

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have not ruled out the possibility that the extortion case involving a construction project site manager in Brickfields on Oct 7 could be linked to gangsterism.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim (pix) said the modus operandi of four suspects detained to assist in the investigation mirrored that of a particular gangster group.

Without disclosing further details, he said the police were in the midst of preparing the investigation paper for further action by the Attorney-General.

Speaking to reporters after opening an award ceremony at Sekolah Menengah Cheras here, Mazlan said the case involved a police officer and three other male suspects.

He said three of the suspects including the policeman have been released on police bail while the fourth was still being remanded to facilitate investigations.

The suspects, in their 30s, allegedly demanded a sum of money from the victim on Oct 7 as ‘protection fee’ to safeguard the site from being disturbed by gangsters. - Bernama
