PETALING JAYA: Apart from raising postal rates, the Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (Amec) wants the government to review its proposal for a minimum base tariff for parcels of up to 2kg for licensed last-mile delivery in the country.

Amec president Bernard Yeoh said the current rates for the delivery of such parcels, comprising merchandise, products and other postal items, were unsustainable.

He welcomed the proposal by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry to raise postal tariff for Pos Malaysia Bhd, the national courier and postal service provider.

He said an increase in the tariff would also help to sustain other companies offering postal and courier services.

The last time the domestic postage was raised was in 2010 when its rose to its current rate of 60 sen. This was despite the fact that a small increase was allowed every three years.
